WBITSA welcomes one and all who have assembled in and around IT industry in West Bengal and are contributing positively towards the blossoming of this sunrise industry.
OBJECT of our organisation is to render benevolent service for sustainable development of the city, state, country and its people through propagation and exchange of information related to better living condition for the mankind and to render effort for making cyber world accessible to economically lower strata of Indian population.
COMFORT ZONE: this sector has generated and is going to generate immense employment opportunity in the near future both directly and indirectly. Some of the companies operating here are complying with almost all statutory obligations according to the laws of the land.
OUR CONCERN: a few of the companies are reluctant to adhere to the prescribed norms as defined in the relevant clauses of industrial relations as well as rules related to shops and establishments act. The Government of West Bengal has declared this sector as essential service by relaxing the restrictions on fixed weekly holidays. All units of this sector can go for 24x7 working hours (provided that they ensure conformity to the 48- hours weekly working schedule). It has been noted that some companies have not been meeting the terms required by the law. All companies going for 24x7 work schedule are required to obtain permission from the government. The proviso is not being complied with by some employers.
Unsurprisingly, women are the most vulnerable section of our workforce in the IT sector. Women employees working in night shift require additional protection and security. They also require sufficient conveyance. In some cases it has been seen that adequate arrangements are wanting at odd hours.
We urge upon these employers on adherence to rules and compliance with the norms set forth by the government of West Bengal. We also draw the attention of the government for proper surveilance.
OUR POSITION: professionals at the level of engineers, executives, and highly paid top officials do not come under the purview of anu trade union or id act. So the question of unionising them does not arise. But for the wider welfare of the IT employees and themselves they are also requested to join this association. |
